Data Free Valley

Companies are attempting to build data centers across the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.

These data centers use massive amounts of water and electricity. They harm the land and people who live nearby, including those who live miles away.

We have a limited time to act and make sure the Shenandoah Valley is a Data Free Valley. You can help by getting involved with one of our active campaigns:

Here's how a data center would affect you, even if you don't live right next door:

Electric bills:

Virginia's own legislative watchdog found that unchecked data center growth could add $14 to $37 a month to a typical Dominion residential electric bill. That's up to $444 per year.

Property value:

“The people that live next to [proposed data center and other local industrial sites] are obviously not very happy about it, and they’re having a hard time [selling] their property.”

Water:

In Newton County, Georgia, families living near a new data center watched their private wells fill with sediment and run dry. One couple can’t afford the $25,000 to replace their well. They’re now forced to haul in their own water daily.

Noise:

In Sterling, Virginia, eight on-site gas turbines run around the clock. Neighbors can hear the whine from inside their homes, and some have put mattresses and plexiglass over their windows to sleep.
